Voice
"Ssssh."
The voice hissed in Jillian's ear. She couldn't see who made the noise but she felt the hot, moist breath on the back of her neck. Lying face down on a hard but covered surface, she craned her neck around and blinked repeatedly. There was nothing but an all-engulfing blackness. read more erotic stories

Who am I writing for?

Seems like a silly question, doesn't it? But, running across this essay question in one of my Master's courses, you know...I couldn't answer it. I think erotica writers make all sorts of assumptions about who actually reads their work; there are a lot of generalizations.

But the question struck me as a good one. Who am I writing for? And, if I knew, would it affect what I wrote?

The problem is, I can't answer either question because, in truth, I don't know who you are at all. But I would like to know you a whole lot better. *grin* And I think it would turn me on immensely to have a clearer picture of who is reading my stories.

So...will you take this survey for me? I know that surveys are a pain in the ass, but it's completely anonymous and the data will only be used to write my essay for my course - and perhaps inspire me the next time I sit down to write something filthy :-)

I'd really appreciate it if you'd fill it out. Don't feel you have to answer any questions that you are uncomfortable with:

I'm interested in seeing what sort of feedback you get.

I too am curious to see the results you get. Maybe you will have to blog the overall stats. Maybe your last question should have an option of "all of the above"! Hope it serves you well on your thesis.

I write it because it turns me on that it turns others on. It's very sexy and powerful.

I'm kind of disappointed by the amount of questions and the limitedness of the answers - I love your writing, couldn't even tell you how I found your site but I keep coming back for more.

Anyhow, if you elaborate the questionaire, let me know I'd be happy to participate some more.

I just finished your survey, and I must say that you ask a really good question. Who do we write for? I guess at the end of the day we write for ourselves, and hope that others like reading us as well.

What is you M.A. going to be in? Kudos for that!

Thanks to everyone who has done the survey so far. Yes, I could have asked a lot more questions, but this isn't for a PhD, or anything. I didn't want to bore you or piss you off, I just wanted to have some idea of who you were.

I also know that some of the questions were a little rigid, but that's the only way I was going to be able to tabulate it by sunday - which is when my essay is due.

What I wanted to stay clear of was questions that would make you uncomfortable, and questions that were aimed for economic or sales reasons. (I didn't ask about your income or your erotica buying habits, because I'm really not all that interested: I wanted to know about you as readers, not as buyers.

Again, thanks to all who participated. This is really helpful to me.

Hugs,

rg

i don't think it is a good question. at least it wouldn't be for me. writing is part of who i am. it's like asking me why i breathe. i write for no one. i write to explore and learn. i have no patience for the know your audience school of writing. i call that pandering. i did fill out the survey though. my advice to you (unsolicited and certainly something you can ignore) is to write. that's it. don't worry about who you are writing for or why. ignore all the little voices in your head that use nonsense words like "should" or who tell you to do things a certain way. as the silly nike ad says..."just do it." if you write from your heart, you'll have readers. if that matters at all.

Hi RG: I filled it out, because you asked us,your readers to please do. I love your writing. I'm curious as to the results? keep going, your wonderful, and my kind of woman. love richard

I'm interested to see the results. I'm even more interested to make up such a quiz myself. I wonder why people read me?
*shakes head*
I might be better off not knowing, actually. OCD and all...
