Great story, well read. It did occur to me that, were I Jeremy, I would have remembered the initial incident before being reminded of it by getting into the lift on the second day!
That’s a very fair comment. And does there really need to be a mention of the fact that he’s forgotten it? Not really. I guess I just wanted to imply that he didn’t expect it to happen again.
I took that Jeremy forgot about the incident to allude to the total tediousness of his life. It was so much of the same, such a rut, that something so out of the ordinary was purged from the forefront of his thoughts. The ride in the elevator the first day was an anomaly… and such that, forgotten. What a surprise that she was there the next day…waiting…silly Jeremy, to think he could get away.
Yes, that is exactly what I intended. But Pete is right, his not remembering doesn’t really wash. There’s a better way to paint that, I’m sure.
