This piece shows the delicious love/hate aspect of reunions. Why do we often try to find reasons not to reunite with past friends, family, or even lovers? Perhaps we fear the colorful memories we hold precious will turn gray. I think a part of everyone desires to return to the past, the good ol’ days locked away in the vaults of our minds eye. Alas, we know the present will never be as the past, time always changes it, always.

Well done RG, as usual you leave this reader desiring to know more, more of Damaris and Lena. The characters in your writings always have so much more to tell.

Lovely piece, RG. “Keepsakes lodged in the marrow of her bones, remembrances brined in time.” That and the last line were my favorite parts. You captured perfectly the way some connections or lovers stay with us. I’m also reminded of your Penny Red. This seems like it could be a later chapter to that story. Thanks for posting.

    Rg,

I luv the double entendre of grey and also perhaps its irony. Such a double standard for women to become grey yet quite revered and sexy on men.
The passing of time, aging of the body, whom we luv- all things we try to control but ultimately they control us. Yes?
