Burn away
every vestige of regret
with cold light,
Virgin Moon.

Make me anew,
free from the detritus
of age and error.
Carve me an eye sharp enough
to cut through bonds thick
as umbilical cords.

Plug up this gaping wound.
I don’t want to be gutted
anymore.

  1. Beautiful. A wish for a new year – a new decade. Best to you, Remittance Girl.

  2. I’m new to your site, and this poetic supplication is a great introduction. It’s beautiful, simple, and honest. I look forward to exploring more of your work.

  3. Despite emotional strongholds, the power of a vision of our most beautiful selves is just a closed eyelids committed deep sigh away…. I know; I’ve lived it. May 2010 bring you healing from all that you seek and that which alludes your perspectives.

Thank you so much RG for expanding my mind in 2009. I am grateful and hope that one day my own (currently rather young) writings (sighs) will grow into one tenth of the brave concepts of yours that inspire me every time I’m privileged to read here. Sincerely KayLynn

    1. Hello KayLynn, These are truly beautiful sentiments and they obviously come from someone with a beautiful soul. You wrote: “the power of a vision of our most beautiful selves is just a closed eyelids committed deep sigh away

I wish I could believe that everyone had a beautiful self, but I, for one, do not. I’m not saying this to prompt your disagreement or garner your pity. It’s just the plain truth. There is no ‘beautiful self” somehow quietly biding its time in me. Its just NOT THERE.

I wish you luck and success with your writing endeavors, and the best piece of advice I can give you is be brutally honest about yourself. I am. It makes me a fucked up human being, but a decent writer. I can’t be both.

  4. A heartfelt wish that deserves to be granted. I really hope that it comes true for you.

  5. May our regrets of years past not define our years to come, and that every tomorrow is better than today.

    1. Amen to the first part. I’m not wishing for anything as good as progressive quotidian perfection. I’ll settle gladly for a few good days in a month.
