Podcasted: The Virtue of Patience

Having no quiet place to record podcasts, I have been a little quiet for the last month. However, Nobilis Reed, of Nobilis Erotica, whose own excellent podcast feed resides at http://nobilis.libsyn.com/,very generously volunteered to do some reading for me and has made a wonderful recording of The Virtue of Patience.

On January 2nd, 2009, Jeremy Sykes stepped into the crowded elevator that took him to his office on the 44th floor. The passengers were bundled up against the winter cold. Some looked tanned from recent winter holidays in warmer climes, but all exuded that air of barely contained ill temper that inevitably haunts everyone who has had a Christmas break…

A story of chance encounters, infinite patience and upward mobility.

  1. Great story, well read. It did occur to me that, were I Jeremy, I would have remembered the initial incident before being reminded of it by getting into the lift on the second day!

    1. That’s a very fair comment. And does there really need to be a mention of the fact that he’s forgotten it? Not really. I guess I just wanted to imply that he didn’t expect it to happen again.

  2. I took that Jeremy forgot about the incident to allude to the total tediousness of his life. It was so much of the same, such a rut, that something so out of the ordinary was purged from the forefront of his thoughts. The ride in the elevator the first day was an anomaly… and such that, forgotten. What a surprise that she was there the next day…waiting…silly Jeremy, to think he could get away.

    1. Yes, that is exactly what I intended. But Pete is right, his not remembering doesn’t really wash. There’s a better way to paint that, I’m sure.

  3. At the end she says ‘next year it’s my turn’. I loved this story and would dearly love to hear a follow up. It would be great to see if perhaps some of Jeremy’s fantasies could come true.
