Sane Past the Veil

You,
my friend,
are sane past the veil.

Easy
to be sane
before you know
the depths to which
humanity can plummet.

Easy
to be sane
before the blinding
light of banality
sears the eyes shut.

Easy
to be sane
before you’ve met
the place where pain
or confusion makes death
seem a viable alternative.

Past
the veil:
the depths,
the doldrums
and the awful storms,
there be monsters and madmen
and a few sane souls who
hang onto the wreck
with bloody nails and
blazing hearts.

You,
my friend,
are past the veil.
And I am unutterably glad
for your company.

  1. This works on so many levels – visually, verbally, the list goes on. I take my hat off to you 🙂

  2. I second those sentiments marousia.

This poem is as captivating as it is poignant.

  3. Past the veil.

I can see that that is status to aspire to.

    Nice work
