Sex Scene: An Anthology (Free!)

cover designed by John Vestevich

Sex Scene: an Anthology is a collection of erotic pieces written by some of the most vibrant new writers on the web. I am happily and unaccountably included in this anthology.

The editor, Robert James Russell, describes the anthology thus:

Sex Scene: An Anthology aims to decontextualize sex, asking the reader to look at the act itself as not only a form of art, but also as the very basest of human urges.  The result is a cacophony of unique perspectives, cultures, styles and scenes–from soft and romantic to deranged and hardcore–that invites you to leave any hang-ups behind and actively engage in conversations about the all-too-often taboo topic, showing that, perhaps, we are not so different after all.

Most of the writer contributors are not, chiefly, writers of erotica. But don’t let that put you off – they don’t mince words or beat around the bush. This is a collection of stories about sex, much of it explicit, but I think you will be very pleasantly surprised by the uniqueness and freshness of the voices. Unformulaic and approaching the subject from refreshingly new angles, I hope it will have a serious impact on redefining what an erotic anthology can be.

To be honest, I don’t think a lot of the stories ‘decontextualize’ sex, and, personally, I’m not at all sorry about that because I think that’s what most bad porn does. What I think they do is ‘recontextualize’ sex. Placing it firmly within a landscape of real human experience (as opposed to the monetized fantasyland that much erotic content is situated in these days), and extending it to the fringes of mainstream society and the dark corners of culture.

Contributors include: Sabina England, Penny Goring, Dan Holloway, Sara Lippmann, Kirsty Logan, Sarah Melville, Leah Petersen, Jeff Pfaller, Scott C. Rogers, Robert James Russell and Cherise Wolas.

The free e-book version is available here.
