I have posed a challenge for erotica writers: to write the most innovative, least cliche-ridden, hottest and compelling kissing scene in less than 1000 words. This challenge is being run on the ERWA Erotica Readers & Writers mailing list. So, if you’d like to participate, please join ERWA. It’s a great place anyway, and the amount you participate is up to you. But the support offered to erotica writers is amazing. Below is a description of the challenge:
‘A Slip of the Lip’ Challenge
Deadline: August 30th, Midnight UTC.
Where to post: Please post in STORYTIME, within the regular STORYTIME hours (Thursday – Sunday). Of course the STORYTIME rules with regard to content limitations still apply.
How to post: Please put QUICKIE KISS in your subject line, before your title, so I can keep these sorted.
What to post: No more than 1,000 words. You must get to lip action by word 400. You can post prose or poetry of any style.
Details:
This isn’t a contest; it’s a challenge meant to stretch your writing muscles in a specific way: create a vignette that portrays, in the most erotic, innovative and creative way you can manage, a kissing scene.
You’re not limited to one kiss or to only lip action, but it should not evolve into a full-fledged sex scene. The point is to elevate the kiss into sex act in its own right.
It’s not necessary follow a story arc – a vignette is perfectly fine. That being said, even in a simple kiss there is a certain arc of tension and release. Keeping this in mind may help you create a more dynamic, compelling piece. The aim is to get the reader hot and bothered while staying away from the oft-used cliches of dancing tongues and face sucking.
Outcome:
After the deadline, I will go through all the entries. If there are grammar or spelling errors and you haven’t sent me a corrected version, I will contact you and give you a week to clean up your entry.
All polished entries will be included in an e-pillow book in pdf format titled: A Slip of the Lip: ERWA’s Best Kisses. All authors will retain individual copyright for their pieces. The book will not be sold, but given away free – downloadable from the ERWA Blog and, of course, all participating writers can offer it for download on their respective sites or blogs.
