If you read my blog fairly regularly, you’ll already know I’m working on a research project investigating the function of the HEA/HFN ending in erotic romance, not simply as a form of narrative closure, but examining if and how it plays other roles in how you construct, imagine, character build, etc.
If you write erotic romance, I would really love to chat with you on your perspective as a writer. For the purposes of this research, I really want to engage in conversation to explore this, which means using Skype. I would need between 30 minutes and 1 hour of your time. I would like to approach this as a discussion based exploration, not as a questionnaire in which your answers are limited to the questions I ask. So I think Skype is the best way to do this. I am using a research method called discourse analysis.
Why would you bother doing this?
1. First and foremost you would be doing me a tremendous favour.
2. Hopefully, discussing aspects of your writing in an analytical way will not only enlighten me about how you think about this issue but may also prompt you to think of the way you write in new and different ways.
3. Romance, erotic romance and erotica are all genres that received very little critical mainstream attention even though millions of women read millions of these genres’ novels a year. I think one of the reasons for this may be because there has been very little study on these genres of literature compared to others. It’s my hope that in writing academically in these areas, I can help, even in a minor way, to changing this state of affairs.
4. You can remain anonymous for this discussion or, if you give me permission, I will use your pen-name if I use a quote from our discussion.
Well, it is my sincere hope to be able to present this paper at the next International Association for the Study of Popular Romance conference in 2012 and produce a journal article for publication.
If you would be willing to give me some of your time and your thoughts, please feel free to contact me directly at remittancegirl@gmail.com or you can twitter me at @remittancegirl . I will send you a much fuller explanation of this research and answer any questions you might have.
RG,
No takers?
Oh yes indeed! Quite a few!
Very nice!!!
i can gchat with you…no skype here only facetime…(i’m more of an erotica writer…)if this is helpful let me know…:)
I’m afraid text chat is a no go for this research. My research methodology requires a fluidity of conversation that text chat does not allow. People tend to structure their thoughts in a far more concrete manner when they write than when they talk. Text doesn’t lead to the same ebb and flow of discussion.
