Finally, after many years and many miles, and a lot of tears and fears and gnashing of teeth, my novel Beautiful Losers has been published by Constable and Robinson – a UK publisher.
At the moment, it’s only available electronically. The release date for the print version is December 27.
‘Would you like to watch us?’
Shira is deeply, achingly in love with her best friend, Jean. This is unfortunate, because he’s gay. But with one flippant invitation, Shira, Jean, and his boyfriend, Sebastian, begin their obsessive journey into the dark heart of sexual excess. When even their own edgy subculture refuses to accept them, Sebastian builds a new world with new rules to shelter the threesome. But the baggage they’ve brought with them can’t simply be left at the door and, when the real world breaches the carefully constructed walls, it does so with tragic consequences.
Beautiful Losers is the first novel-length work by erotic fiction writer Remittance Girl.

Sounds intriguing and seeing as I know your writing I have no doubt it’s excellent. And congratulations on getting C&R as a publisher. The only small thing is, they should enable the ‘look inside’ function on Amazon – or maybe they’ll do that after the print version is out?
I wish to god they’d do anything I suggested but they won’t. That’s the danger of getting published with a large company.
If it’s newly listed, the ‘look inside’ is probably still coming. I put up two books last weekend, and the ‘look inside’ only started working yesterday. Sometimes it happens in 12 hours, sometimes it takes a few days. But I really think that’s at Amazon’s end. The publisher can’t stop a ‘look inside’ from happening (except by fiddling inside with text placement). 10% of the book (as determined by data, including pictures) is going to show up. Sooner or later. Sometimes later. 😉
Congrats on the release. I remember reading bits of this in the past. Good to see it make it to print.
First, congratulations!
Second, I’m up to chapter 15. I’m now at the point of wanting to sink my teeth into the rest of it, but am also to afraid to, for I fear the downward spiral is about to begin…
oh dear. 😛 Yes, well, hold on to your hat.
At long, long last! And right in the middle of NaNoWriMo! Argh! Timing, RG – timing! 😉
Sincerely, though – congratulations, darling!

I must have this–in print and signed! What a beautiful cover. Can’t wait to see you.
Holy heck I’m so excited. Ve loved the story since I had found it on your site. I think I’m buying both. **happy dance**
I’m very excited for you.
Congratulations! -x-
Yeah! I’ve been waiting for this for years. Congratulations!
Looking forward to a late Christmas present with the print edition! Congrats!
was so relieved to see it published and bought it right away. i had been reading it back when it was available online and it was wonderful to have a conclusion. as usual, well done!
Please let me know what you think of it!
i don’t want to let out any spoilers, but i do have to say that the ending was beautifully, sadly, perfect. i will admit that i cried, but several of your works have led me to silent tears. i appreciate that you never end on a cliche. if memory serves, breach of trust left me with a similar feeling. i think that splinter had a more neat and tidy ending. i also enjoyed the fact that the scenes never felt like a replay…your use of language to describe the sensations and emotions was varied and never got old (when many writers use that same descriptors over and over with regard to sexual situations). this is why i have been one of your fans for many years. i am fairly certain that i have read nearly everything of yours that is available online or through my kindle. all the best to you and many thanks!
ps…may i ask what happened to the lepidopterist (i think that was the title?) i believe there were 3 or so installments and it was a more recent story. i apologize if i got the name wrong; i would love to know how it ends.
Kristina, I’m so glad the ending felt satisfying to you! The Lepidopterists is still online, but not yet continued. I actually stopped writing it because I really need the time to do a bit more research into psychoanalysis before I continue it. Thank you so much for reading and even more for feeding back.
Just realized it was out and downloaded it last night… Years ago, the beginning of this story (that I originally found on ERWA) was what pushed me to look for more of your work, so I feel like I’ve been living with these characters a long time and was really eager to read the conclusion. First off, well done! As a novel it felt cohesive, and the language was beautiful in places. It wasn’t the easy HEA or even “happily for now” ending I might have wished for, but it was well-written and emotionally resonant, if messy (like life, I guess). That doesn’t mean I’m not sad and kind of mad at one of the characters and a teensy bit mad at you as the author (it didn’t have to end this way! :)), but I get it… I’m really glad I got to read the whole story.
‘Beautiful Losers’ was the first piece of your work, RG, that I found and read (something I never have and never will regret) but also the first piece of erotic fiction that ever prompted such an emotional connection between myself, as a reader, and the characters. I have waited patiently to find out what happened to Shira, Jean and Sebastian because, being a casual writer, a perfectionist and also having writers for friends, I understand how hard the writing and publishing process can be.
I am glad to say that the wait was worth it; the characters are perfect in their own fully human imperfect ways, the writing style immaculate (apart from one or two editing errors which I really had to look for and am more than happy to overlook), each scene different but still satisfying and the emotions conveyed to me both heartening and devastating in turn. I half knew what to expect from the start but despite this, and also being an idiot and reading beyond the word ‘spoilers’ when looking at an Amazon review, the ending did not lose any of its impact from which I will be reeling for days.
Congratulations RG, the novel is perfect and one I will be re-reading for years to come.
It’s terribly kind of you to say so. And I’m mortified by the typos. Just goes to show you that publishing with an ‘established’ publisher is a waste of fucking time, isn’t it. You fork over 75% of your royalties and …. nada. No marketing, no free copies to give away, and a faulty proof-read. *sigh*
I’m SO pleased to see BL is out and I’m waiting to buy the print edition. I’ve read and reread the parts you posted online and am desperate to read the conclusion.
Congratulations on publishing Beautiful Losers! I downloaded a copy last night, and was delighted to find The Change as well. I’ve been visiting your site regularly and they are two of my favourites.
Has this now been released in print? Looking through Amazon, I still see only the Kindle version available.
I’d love to buy a copy as a birthday gift to myself… and get started reading!
Nope. And from what I can tell, it’s not going to be. Email me your addy and I’ll send one to you.
Will do — it’s a pity though… is this yet another instance of work too far outside of societal norms for publishers to be willing to print it?
Oh, it’s not outside the norms at all. They just don’t think it will make them any money. Which is probably true.
Well how about it makes YOU money, instead of them? Is there some way I can directly pay you what I would have paid for a paperback copy?
Your work is worth supporting, and if it means side-stepping the “fork over 75% of your royalties and …. nada” nonsense, so much the better!
I honestly WILL produce a POD version of it soon. In the meantime, send me your address.
Sent. Many thanks — and looking forward to availability of a print-on-demand; I can think of a few friends who might enjoy this as well!
Hi RG, I am unable to find an electronic version, for purchase, of Beautiful Losers. Can you please let me know where it is available? Thank you.
Sadly, my publisher was bought by Little Brown and they seem to have taken it off their published list. Hmmm Would you like me to send you a copy?
Hi RG, I am desperate to read this novel. Unfortunately, it’s not available on US Amazon at the moment, and every other buying other option is UK only. Is there any way I could still request an e-copy? I am of course delighted to pay for it in any way you choose!
