I’ve just uploaded a podcast version of part one of Bequeathed.  I’m still trying to get better at reading, but accents are not my strong point. Let me know what you think.

  1. You know, I really like this. It took me this long to give it a listen. But, since I always read a story with a narrator’s voice in my head, usually perforce mine, I really like the idea of the writer as narrator. I imagine the writer reads with the inflections s/he heard in their own head when they were writing the it. It definitely increases my appreciation, and I pretend it gives me a deeper understanding, of the story.

It doesn’t hurt to have a good speaking voice, either, which you do.

    1. Angelika,
Ack! I know that the comment box is really, really confusing. It was the one that came with the template, and I’m going to see if I can fix it RIGHT NOW! Huggles and thanks for persevering.

  2. i love this story, and many of your others. Your are a gem. Healthily sensual, fine writer and too much time on your hands… it is the worlds good fortune that you were born in the time of the internet !

    1. God, I wish I felt like I had too much time on my hands. I always feel like I have far too little to do all the things I want to do! I love your compliment of me being ‘healthily sensual’ but I’m afraid it would be terribly dishonest to accept it. There is nothing healthy about me. I think you are, perhaps, mistaking me for one of my characters? *smirk*

  3. I read this story just before Christmas and enjoyed it very much. By coincidence, I had borrowed The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and The Woman In Black by Susan Hill from my local library by special order, as I like to read ghost stories around this time of the year, and I thought that your story compared very well – the confident relaxed narration, the almost tangible atmosphere of the old house, the plausible backstory and the eventual revelation of the deceased woman in a new light. Fine story. You do indeed, as another lady has said, have a lovely voice and, though “lovely” is not absolutely necessary, from the work I did for radio, I can tell a good reader when I hear one. But your voice IS lovely.

    Regards,

    Cate
