dragonfly

Today I found
Your cock, still tucked
In the sleeve of my summer kimono.

The season is turning:
Time to replace the flight of dragonflies
With a shower of golden maple leaves.

Time to accept
That the summer sun
Has grown mild and indifferent.

I’ll nestle you
In a beautiful lacquer box
And bury my desire under the mango tree.

Sweet and sad.
Next year’s summer fruit
Will surely taste like you.

  1. Beautiful. Really lovely. I particularly like the figurative burial of desire under the mango tree – such a rich image. I think this works without knowing the reference to the film (I didn’t), although a quick read of the wiki link added to my reading. I like that this poem works on both a literal and metaphoric level.

I am also reminded of “Divestiture” and find myself longing for that story again. Through it, I discovered your work and my darker yearnings. Hard to believe that was five years ago. Any chance of revisiting it?
