If you’re a regular visitor to my site, you will have noticed I was on something of a writing jag this weekend. But with Monday, work has intervened and it won’t be until Wednesday that I post another installment of The Lepidopterists.
Writing this is an interesting experiment for me. Yvette is the first really twisted female character I think I’ve ever written, but I’m enjoying that. Also, I decided to write the story to suit the medium, in very short installments with hanging endings where possible. Some people complained of the tease, but they have been intentional.
Although I have a framework for the story, the interaction I’ve been privy to on twitter and in the comments have, to some extent, guided how the story has progressed, if not in its structure, then at least in its details. But writing this way, by necessity has meant that I have needed to return to earlier chapters and add things or clarify, in order to make the story cohesive.
We are all so used to reading as a linear process. I, like many writers, also am used to starting at the beginning of a story and writing through to the end (sometimes). So this is new for me, and perhaps new for you. Let me know how you feel about it.
I think that what I’ve read so far is excellent. However the process works, bottom line is exactly that–it works!
I look forward to the continuation of this tale, and I find the twisted female character to be something I’m enjoying.

Simply enjoying watching a mistress at work. Loving the story and its characters, and am glad there is more to come. Thanks for letting us in on your process.

OG, I enjoy this style, if I miss something. I can always reread.
Warm hugs,
Paul.
It’s great!
Loving it, waiting impatiently for more 😉
Interesting approach, like oral story telling perhaps or theatre improv maybe, interacting with the listener/reader/ audience going back in the story to clarify, add detail to make sense.
Have you extended this to a choose your own adventure style? Elsewhere in your site? At the end of each installment invite readers to choose which direction the story goes – two choices say, most votes sets the scene for the next instalment. Or leave it open and choose the suggestion that most intrigues/challenges you.
