Time blossoms and rots
in this ruin where we circle each other
with exquisite care.

Ragged and wounded,
claws politely retracted in a gesture
of good faith.

But the knowledge of
your sharp teeth and my poisoned skin
can’t be unlearned.

Nature has made us
a pair of monsters each in our own way
as lethal as the other.

What passports,
what pledges of armistice will suffice
for creatures like us?

Perhaps we’ll choke
on the thick, rich soup of fear we’ve made
in misery’s kitchen.

  1. RG, misery’s kitchen strikes a chord, I don’t know why, perhaps something from my childhood, who knows!
    Warm hugs,
    Paul.

  2. THat’s amazingly well written. Not that you ever post anything that isn’t 😉

    My fav part is
